Kang Daniel wins appeal in $510,000 damages lawsuit against Genie Music

Kang Daniel won a lawsuit against Genie Music in August 2023, overturning a previous ruling. The case involved a concert contract worth over USD 1.6 million (KRW 2.2 billion) signed in June 2022. After performances in Seoul, the Philippines, and Thailand, a shortfall of about USD 520,000 (KRW 710 million) remained.

Genie Music initially sued, claiming Kang Daniel and his former agency, KONNECT Entertainment, failed to meet their obligations. The first trial found KONNECT Entertainment responsible for about USD 290,000 (KRW 400 million) in damages.

The appeals court ruled in favor of Kang Daniel, citing his faithful performance and the lack of additional performance requests. The court also noted the delay in filing the lawsuit.
